As most of you know I have struggled with alcoholism and have ballooned over the past 4 years from a 6%-body fat marathon runner to a bloated 25% body fat tub of goo who gets winded walking up the stairs.

I am here to honestly share my story and hope others will as well as I try to recover and get myself back to feeling good about myself.

As of August 1, no more alcohol, no soft drinks (non-dietary ones, to be specific), limiting starches and "bad" foods, and a regular exercise program.

I am only taking baby steps for now, but wish to encourage fellow posters to join along and support each other.

I have charted my monthly income, both gambling and non-gambling, for several years and notice a direct correlation with how healthy I am and how much my bankroll fluctuates.

My first advice GD is to chart your health and what you will be doing daily to make improvements....

One day at a time......baby steps turn into miles, same as giant steps do.

Sorry to hear .....GD What I do is 3-4 times a week I am at the gym ...20 mins on the Oliptical machine or Bike....20 mins weight lifting...

Also if you try instead of a BIG breakfast have a SLIM FAST shake in the morning eat a big lunch ..and fore dinner have something small like a bowl of Rasin bran or something like that you might loose a little

Do not make your DINNER as your HUGE main meal

99.5% of every Thurs/Fri. (my friday) I head down to my local bar.

This week I abstained and stayed home to watch movies.

A small step, but a positive one nonetheless.

Did my second run today. Had to wait until around 7:30 because of the Vegas heat. Didn't feel real good as I was sore from the long layoff and it felt rather humid, but I made it through my goal of increasing my time.

Have to stay sober tomorrow and keep the diet up.

I weighed myself for the first time since I started and I lost 2 pounds. I know it's way early, but that was a positive boost for me.

Most won't believe it , its very beneficial to record your progress...there's something about writing it down that is very beneficial...it gets to the point you fee obligated to log your progress and don't want to let yourself down...everyone should record their progress!

keep it up!

I weigh myself at the beginning of every month and do my BFP, body fat percentage twice at year.

August 1st, I was at the heaviest I have ever been in my life, thus slapping my fact to reality.

getting into the gym 4 or 5 times a week is very easy for me..Matter of fact it feels really good after i take a shower and my muscles start to relax..Its almost as if i can feel every cell deep down in places i didnt even know of come alive.

Its a great fresh feeling... I have managed to cut out my fast food to about say one meal or less a week.

I dont believe in dieting per se...I think you should have a healthy balanced diet. I still eat my regular steak every friday (its become a routine while watching my friday night fights) But i strongly believe in portions. And having a naturally small appetite my only concern has been beer and soft drinks and other high calorie junk...

Looks like i am going to have to run at least over a mile if i am gonna lose this gut!!! Seems there are no short cuts

Another tough run today, felt easier but was gassed later on.

Might go for some Myoplex or Met-rx shakes next time I'm shopping to cut down on the junk I eat snacking.

THAT is the key and great post Red....you can eat what you want just do not over do it...

If you go to lunch at Quizno's and have a Sub...for dinner have a bowl of rasin bran...something LIGHT ..it has worked for me as I have been at my same weight for 15 yrs....6 feet 1/2inch and 203 lbs... I could lose about 5-8 pounds and be perfect

Hey Doberman, dont tell me you already run out of steam this early...

I managed another mile today with a light work out since i was sore from using new machines at golds gym that kind of interrupted my normal routine...

Tomorrow i am off (might do a short run in the community gym and may be a few situps but thats it...No weights or shit...Just breaking a sweat and thats it..)

Just ordered for some wings!!!!:lolBIG: (had too much subway for a week now and i am sick of it)

Had to go to the doctor today for something that has flared up in the recent past. Couldn't run or exercise and have had work issues that have prevented me from having free time.

At the doctor's though, I talked with him about it and got a little bit of helpful advice.

I'm still sober and still working towards the goal.
